Chief Transportation Officer
Job Description: Duties include the following:
- Direct, manage, and coordinate daily rail activities to ensure safe, efficient and effective train operations
- Administer and enforce departmental safety programs, operating rules, and regulatory compliance
- Develop operating procedures, standards, and performance metrics (KPMs) to improve safety and reliability
- Supervise transportation personnel and oversee scheduling.
- Coordinate activities with other departments, outside agencies, and contractors to ensure smooth service
- Deep understanding of rail transportation operations, safety regulations, and labor contracts
- Other projects and duties as assigned
- Five (5) or more years of supervisory or combined supervisory and operating experience in railroad operations. Familiarity with commuter, passenger, NICTD, and/or Metra Electric commuter operations is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated superior interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public, employees and other departments within NICTD
- Strong leadership, decision-making, analytical, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
- Basic or better proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Supervision: The position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Salary and Benefits: The expected salary is $155K after consideration of skills, and experience. Credit for time served in other railroad employment, including military leaves, will be applied in determining vacation day entitlements. Benefits include paid vacation, paid holidays, health club stipend, comp time, medical benefits, dental benefits, health savings account, railroad retirement and a supplemental pension.
